NYC’s New Apple Store & 24-Hour BestBuy

Recession? What recession? Apparently electronic retail chains Apple and Best Buy are thriving, despite a still-sluggish U.S. economy – or maybe that’s just what they want us to think. Either way,This saturday, November 13th, both Apple and Best Buy are scheduled to open the doors to two new major retail stores in New York City.

Apple unveils its fourth NYC location with the opening of the Upper West Side store at 67th & Broadway – Lincoln Square. Doors open at 10:00 a.m. this saturday. Finally loyal Apple customers who reside in the UWS or further uptown, like myself, won’t have to trek East to the Park Ave. store on 59th, or further downtown to the 14th street store in the Meatpacking District.

Also on saturday, head downtown and help Best Buy celebrate the opening of their first ever 24-hour retail store, located in Union Square. Ironically, the new ’round-the-clock Best Buy will take over a 46,000-square-foot space formerly known as a Circuit City, located on the corner of 14th & 4th Ave. This recent Bloomberg article called the new Best Buy venture the “biggest” retail lease agreement of the last three months in Manhattan.

Will you head out this saturday and maybe start your holiday shopping a bit early this year? Do you think a 24-hour Best Buy will last in the long run? Is this new UWS Apple location more convenient for you? Let me know – I want to hear people’s feedback about these openings!
