Top Songs of ’09: Fiona Apple – “Why Try to Change Me Now”

“Why Try to Change Me Now”
Fiona Apple

The last time we heard from Fiona Apple was nearly five years ago with the release of her critically acclaimed album, ‘Extraordinary Machine’. While “Why Try to Change Me Now” isn’t exactly a new song, Apple’s cover of the Cy Coleman classic provides a modern sentiment while still retaining the nostalgic feel of Coleman’s original. The cover is off the Coleman tribute album from earlier this year, ‘The Best is Yet to Come – The Songs of Cy Coleman’, – various artists performing their renditions of Coleman’s classic jazz and Broadway standards.
