R.I.P. Lena Horne

Lena Horne, a legendary and revolutionary woman in both entertainment and American history passed away late last night at the grand age of 92. Horne was an iconic actress, singer, and dancer who got her start in the early days of Hollywood – a time when it was quite controversial for Black performer to shine as bright as she couldn’t help but to.

Blessed with a gorgeous voice, and a heart to match, Lena Horne was – and will continue to live on in our memory as – the absolute image of grace and poise. Often credited as one of the most influential figures in the struggle for integration and equal rights for Blacks in Hollywood and the entire entertainment business – behind Lena’s natural beauty and warm, radiant smile, was a courageous and forward-thinking woman we should all consider ourselves lucky to have known in our lifetime.

Below, watch Lena perform one of her most famous numbers, “Stormy Weather”, from the 1943 film of the same name. Just amazing – listen to those vocals and that seemingly effortless emotion.
